HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE! on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Ah well, I’m still an hour before the day is over and is now soooooo…. everyone had your ??/tang yuan?

There’s this saying that everyone should at least eat one tang yuan/tong yuen per year as an indication that a year had passed and you’re older/wiser by a year. A story I heard since I was a kid, but never really paid all that much attention to mainly because I get stuck in University and work most of the time during these season since I got out of school and never really had much of a chance to celebrate it with the family.

Anyways, what kicked me out of my blogging funk is an adorable message from my GrandAunt. I texted her about 7p.m. earlier when I realised that today IS supposed to be a rather big celebratory day for the Chinese community ( though even though it’s called Winter Solstice, I’d NEVER experience winter in all my life. Woes ). In which I said :

“Happy Winter Solstice! I just realised I haven’t had any tong yuen for YEARS!”

… and she replied about a minute after my message went through ( I was really rather surprised that she can text this fast! I was the one who taught her how to text message, so I have a small bit of happy teacher’s pride there )

“So, I guess u r still 22 then!”

Awwww… my grandaunt says the most adorable thing (;A;)/ ( Also, note her usage of U R as short form! I AM IMPRESSED XDDDbbbb )

Guangzhou PhotoLog on Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

So, Lian Hua Mountain. Which I think translated to “Lotus Mountain”.

There was this famous local delicacy called the “Ox Milk Pudding” here. The texture is like a mix between Tofufah and steamed egg :3 My relatives gave us a bunch of those to bring home ^^v

Random pictures from LianHua Mountain.

#01. The Golden Guan Yin statue towers over us. The entire outdoor area is filled with smokes from the incense. There was a huge bell that you can ring yourself too. It’s kinda soothing to hear. ( And also, the vegetarian food here is sooooooo goooood )

#02. Temple guardian. I’m not sure what it’s called in English but my little brother’s name is based of this mystical creature. And he’s born in the year of the Dragon XD Double the awesomeness

#03. I can’t resist feeling so stupidly happy. The first time I saw the gate of this miniature fort I just went “AN ENEMY OFFICER HAD FALLEN TO MY SPEAR!” Damn you, Dynasty Warriors.

Anyone who got the title name reference gets an e-cookie :D

Last weekend was an awesome food filled weekend! Had a road trip with most of the gang to Ipoh to have an early birthday meet up with our dearest long lost Ping Pong on Saturday <3 We had a good 12 hours filled of GOOD Ipoh food. Ipoh food pictures up later since I have to shift through my clunky camera.

As for Sunday … Spent the afternoon at Booya’s playing Rock Band XDD I am so n00b it hurts =.= Also, Disgaea 3 is so totally out of whack but completely adorable. WAAAAAAAANTTTSSSSS T__T *needs a PS3*

Later in the evening, whiterabbit and me discovered that Satsuma Shabu-shabu is closed for good :( We were really crushed as it was our favorite hang out place to sit and eat. Looking for other alternative, we decided on Winter Warmers since the Onion mentioned she missed this place earlier. whiterabbit herself hadn’t the chance to try it so it was a go.

The pretty cups <3

The pretty cups <3 And the tablecloth matches the cups XDD

Personally I’d been here several times and I’m still charmed by the prettiness and overall atmosphere of the place. We ordered cheese baked items as main meal and got a pot of Strawberry Cocktail Tea to share. I am used to ordering Black Tea there but both whiterabbit and I didn’t think it was a good idea to take anything caffeine so late into the night XD;; It was a good choice on our part because the tea was really really nice <3

First Mooncake for 2008? 8D on Thursday, September 11th, 2008

This is all kind of sad. I’m a Chinese. I’m supposed to celebrate Mooncake Festival/Mid Autumn Festival in the most gluttonous ways possible with all the wonderful variety of mooncakes popping out like mushrooms after the rain.

Apparently I forgot about the festivity totally until the alarm bell sets off last weekend ORZ Mid Autumn Festival is this coming Sunday. I have yet to buy my close relatives any mooncakes for gifts. And WORSE, I have yet to eat a single mooncake myself @A@;;;

But! The problems were finally remedied.

The first mooncake I officially had was this. The Häagen-Dazs® Chocolate Mooncake <3 And it wasn't a even PROPER mooncake :P It's ice-cream with sorbet filling to imitate the usual one -yolk-inside-mooncake look XDD

First official mooncake eaten for 2008? 8D

But am I complaining? NO WAI XD I’d got my mooncake AND ice-cream fix at one go \:D/ JOY

Thank you Booya for treating me and Jive to this wonderful mooncake! ( Which I’d eyed for YEARS but it was expensive to be eaten alone D: Gift? HELL NO YOU THINK I WANNA GIVE THESE AWAY AS FESTIVE GIFTS? Mine! I tell you! MINEEEE! )

PS : I’d got some of these as festive gifts though :3 So pretty, aren’t they? I just hope my aunts and what not won’t kill me for passing it to them so late ^^;;;

Sunday @ ShenZhen City on Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Just got back from the city.

Now back into the nothingness of the industrial area T___T Tiring semi weekend but it was so amazing! I had to thank my dear colleague C and her boyfriend. Food was absolutely wonderful ( I keep saying this about the food here XD – Had buffet dinner at a hotel on Saturday night and then an awesome Chinese local delicacies and roasted meat galore for dinner 8DDDD;;; ) I was brought to this street called “East Gate/ Dong Men(?)” which is like a mix of Petaling Street and Sungei Wang back in Malaysia.

SO MANY PEOPLE O__O;; SO DAMNED HOT. Was warned over and over again about pickpockets. Am amazed how high the sellers jacks up the prices of their goods O_O I was asking for a bag and was quoted RMB280; as my colleague dragged me off the price went down to RMB130 |||ORZ

Oh! Tested first hand that China’s shopping malls’ air conditioning sucks massively. I missed the ‘freeze-your-ass-off’ Malaysian malls for a moment there ..

BUT!! So many sights and cheap stuff ( clothes, shoes, shades, bags, DVDs, games, fake branded goods ET CETERA XDDD ) to look out for! Is broke now. Plz to be sending money T___T

PS : I spent the best RMB15 ever on a hair saloon right across the road in front of Shen Zhen’s amusement park – Happy Valley’s entrance. One whole hour of pampering your hair and massage and a simple facial wash. 気持ち良いいい ~~~ Doesn’t help that the saloon people thinks I’m a student. Fueled my already high Peter Pan complex to no end オホホホホホ〜〜
