Greetings from behind the Great Wall on Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Oh hay. I’m still alive. It had just been a rather busy week at work and I tend to spend my boring nights locked away in my room playing Suikoden Tierkreis obsessively ( PS2 controller died. Need to get replacement. My heart ache for Persona 4 ~~~~~ TwT )

Also, being sent here and basically works and stay in the factory in a far off industrial area with nothing much for miles is giving me valid excuse to be an obsessive gamer with no life. Whooops?

Since I’m lazy to blog about the daily oddities ( and I ever feel so out of place sometimes … ), I hereby present random observations I had in point forms :D

#1. Donkey meat easily breaks. Like that of a fish. Tastes not like chicken.
#2. Even if I have nine lives, I will not drive in China. Ever.
#3. Maybe it’s just the small outskirt town area I’m in at the moment, Ah Beng/Lala fashion are everywhere.
#4. Chinese advertisement here involved too much text, idgi. As someone who studied media design it confuses me a bit. Or maybe it’s just the fact that I can’t read Chinese. Billboards, bus ads, signages… they are all mostly text and gives me a bit of a headache.
#5. It’s pretty hazy here where I am. Maybe because it’s in the industrial zone? Ach, it dampens my mood
#6. I think the big boss here thinks I’m a small kid because of how I look. He gave me a light pat on the head @.@ which was rather hilarious and awkward.
#7. It’s getting warmer and warmer already. The cold spring weather last week is totally gone. It almost feels like Malaysia =.=; I missed the colddddd
#8. China’s KFC is weirddddddd. They don’t have Original Recipe chickens and they serves roast chickens?! @.@;; I missed my Malaysian KFC waaaa

So this is week two. I don’t feel too homesick yet though I was ranting profusely two days back at Rach about the sort of Malaysian food I’m starting to miss :\ so uhmmm … I’m food-sick? But the food is really rather good here so far. ( It just doesn’t taste like home :( )

Flying in; beyond the Great Firewall on Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

So I’m now in Shen Zhen.

Before anyone ask “How’s ShenZhen?”, I can say it’s “Pretty damned cold for a Malaysian” ( because I’d got torrents of this same question since last night XD ILU people ♥ )

I woke up at 3a.m. with the rest of my family in my hometown the day before ( they wanted to send me off at the airport, which is like 3 hours away from our place ). We arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare even after breakfast and was lounging around until i can checked in. It felt awfully strange though knowing that it will be two whole months since I can be with them again.

Thus, due to the fact that I woke up at the ungodly hour of 3 a.m. earlier I dozed off even before the plane took off. MAS air stewardesses’ were really sweet because they gave me a pillow and blanket as soon as they see me nodding off as soon as I settled on board XD

They started serving brunch when I finally roused and found out that every movies playing in flight was already 40 mins in :\ Was channel hopping until I saw the horribly familiar mind numbingly constipated face staring back at me in those weird close-up in that creepy soulless eyes.

The in-flight channels are showing TWILIGHT.

I was stuck between having this expression :D and THIS D: ( It’s actually quite fun to watch it dubbed in Spanish XDD )

Hurriedly, I started to rummage for the headphone for guaranteed entertainment during brunch XD ( I’m not a masochist, I’m just terribly sleepy and needed the lulz ) Mainly because I will never ever spend money on this ridiculous pile of published fan-fiction; and by watching whatever I can see on the screen without my headphone is kind of hilarious because everyone seems to have :| or :0 as their default expression. It had to be lol-tastic, right??

It was as expected, it was so cheesily bad I found it hilarious ( thank you whiterabbit, I got the push to actually stomach this along with my brunch because I must hear “THIS IS THE SKIN OF A KILLAHHH!” that you talked about so often ) Pattison was much more charming in Harry Potter when he’s playing the nice-guy Cedric than an angsty teenage vampire stalker hmmm? :\

And ehh, am I the only person who snorted in my custard pudding when Edward said “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb?” AM I? That whole thing was totally forced and sounded so horribly corny it’s just SO AWKWARD to watch it. And I have high tolerence for cheesy dialogues which work in PRINT but doesn’t on screen. Whatever the hell happened? Also, how can you both watch this in the cinema without flinching or laughing out loud?

It was really rather embarrassing to watch to be honest. I kept praying and hoping my boss won’t turn over and ask me what I was watching. I will really not know how to answer him XD;

But too bad(!?!), I dozed off again after the food was taken away. No amount of sparkly vampires can keep me awake ( and I missed the Vampire Baseball scene with Supermassive Black Hole in the BGM, much to my chagrin )

Apart from that, my whole flight was pretty uneventful, since I slept about 90% of the way there to Hong Kong. From then on, me and my boss took the bus and the the train to cross the bother of Shen Zhen and from there, a driver took us here where I’ll spend the next two months stationed at.

I .. really don’t know what to think @.@;

…. but at least i’d got internet connection from my room and had my PS2 rigged up to the TV? :DDDDDbbbbb Persona 4 here I comeeeeee ♥

( and also I got my Gundam 00 #22 so I’m ALL HAPPY ♥ ♥ ♥ )

Rachel, Maggie and Keat. This post is dedicated to you guys XDD

Yes yes I was doubled over laughing when I first entered this shop playing Persona 4. I would like to say Old Lady Shiroku here is definitely nicer than the one we are all so unfortunate to know though >D And no, she doesn’t go “Hello hello hellooooooooo” at me \:D/

I just realised a few hours earlier that I’ll be heading off to Shen Zhen for work in exactly ONE WEEK.

And I’ll be there for TWO WHOLE MONTHS.

!!!

CUE PANIC ATTACK orz

Though to be fair, the first thing stuff(s) that flashed through my mind when I was told about the decision from my boss was

    – Oh SNAP I’M GONNA MISS OUT ON CORALINE SCREENING ON THE 19TH NOOOOOOOESS!
    – OH SHITTTTT I’M GONNA MISS OUT ON THE LAST FOUR EPISODES OF GUNDAM 00. FOUR END SERIES EPISODES. TEH PAAAAAINNNNNN!
    – The Great Firewall of China. I was 100% sure that LJ was blocked the last time I was there.
    – This could be a good thing. It means I won’t be seeing my LJ friendlist squee-ing about Coraline and the Gundam 00 fandom exploding from the finale
    – B-but… OH GUNDAM 00

And then I realised I have very very very strange priorities.

Sitting down to take in the news further, I ended up in fits of “OMG what will I do there after work? Will I be bored to death?” Granted, my colleagues there were really awesome bring me around after-work. But then again, I don’t think I should and want to impose this on them every night. Every single 60 days I’m there. SIX ZERO. SIXTY. DAYS.

*headdesk*

Personally, I’d been arming myself with books and my DS and PSP too ( Suikoden Tierkris DS coming out in March! YESSSHHH! ) And I have Dissidia : Final Fantasy on the PSP to amuse myself every now and then ( Got Suikoden 1 from PSN earlier thinking it’ll keep me company when I am over in China, but ended up finishing the game in the same week >.> Shaddap, the game was just as great as how I remembered it to be okay? )

Then somehow I did the mistake trying out Persona 4 last week ( because Eisu had been showing me a bunch of awesome looking trailers from the game ;A; )

This game had also made me discovered that I might just have an unhealthy obsession with megane-kun ( glasses characters ). THIS HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE AND I AM REALLY RATHER WORRIED OH GAWD WHYYY

Awesome artwork, check. Awesome soundtrack, check. Awesome pop art styled UI, check. Interesting characters interaction, check. Engaging battle systems, check. A plot that sucks you in from the beginning, check.

Alright, people I’m doomed. There is NO WAY I can finish a 70 hours ++ RPG in less than two weeks and I’ll be heading off to ShenZhen for two months and that means I will have to stop playing this for two whole MONTHS only to continue it when I get back.

Or so I thought.

I’m so totally smuggling the PS2 over now, I tell you. So my luggage for two months will probably consist of 70% entertainment and 30% clothes + necessities. WHY HALLO THAR PRIORITIES. Can you come knock me on the head for a bit? With a monkey wrench maybe?
