Meme from here

What was the last book you bought?
Terry Pratchett’s Making Money paperback

Name a book you have read MORE than once
Too many to list. I tend to re-read because I have horrible memory and sometimes when I get too caught up in the plot, I speed read and misses a lot of details. I’ll definitely read back a book if I liked it enough.

Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?
Hmmmm … not that I can remember?

How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews
I’ll pick up the book if the cover looks interesting but I will buy it if the summary on the back jacket seems interesting. Also, if there’s a book where I heard a lot about from my friends, I tend to borrow it first before buying ( if I like it enough )

Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?
Fiction

What’s more important in a novel - beautiful writing or a gripping plot?
Gripping plot. I avoid purple prosey ones and imo good writing are most evident in non-pretentious writings.

Most loved/memorable character (character/book)
Good Omens’ Crowley. Definitely most loved and memorable to me :D

Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?
Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. Tokimeki Memorial GS2 Short Stories Collection 3 <-- haha okay, don't laugh damnit!

What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?
The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman. Earlier in the morning when I was waiting for the bus.

Have you ever given up on a book half way in?
Yes. Dune. I … can’t seem to get past the first chapter no matter how hard and how many times I tried.

Just got back from The China Embassy once more. Why is it EVERY time I went there it’s so filled with people like your regular morning wet marketplace??! And I had to wait and que up for more than an hour again as well ORZ

Results : Applications are being processed but I’m cranky from being hungry and tired.

And just wanna get home and play 薄桜鬼 even though it means I have to wade through the onslaught of kanji because I really do find myself immerse in the story now D: Halp! Hijikata, why are you still eluding me?? And Okita is simply breaking my otome heart now ORZ

  1. Hehe, if I list all the books I’ve read more than once, that’ll probably take me the entire year! Happy BTT! :)

  3. I have tried reading Dune as well and something keeps stopping me. Whether it the writing or the pace I don’t know. My husband keeps telling me how great it is.

  7. Shannon : My friends kept telling me the same.. I think I have the same problem with you… the writing style seems to really drag on.. and at that time when I was a Uni student, I just didn’t have the patience to deal with it ^^;; Kind of like Robert Jordan’s Wheels of Time I supposed?

  8. labbit : LOL! I know. YOU were the one who lent me those books. I kept them for about a month trying my best to read … and I STILL can’t get past the first few pages. I ended up reading a couple of other Discworld books and STILL can’t get past the first chapter of Dune.
