I finally dragged myself to visit my ENT at SJMC last Saturday and got an audiology test performed on my hearing. As it turns out, my tinnitus stems from mild hearing loss of the high-pitched variety. This just confirms that there is no fixing my hearing – my only real solution now is managing the problem. And of course, the doc said that I could try taking some more pills if I want to – he has no idea whether it will actually do any help or not – but in the interest of being optimistic, I decided to try it anyway. After all, what’s the worst that could happen, right? So at the moment I’m on medication again. Sighhhhhhhh.
Well, on the bright side, at least I’m not dying of cancer. I don’t have a tumour in my head (which CAN also cause tinnitus), or Meniere’s disease, which is undoubtedly much much worse. I just need to take better care of myself and my hearing so that it doesn’t get worse, and get an audiology test done every 1-2 years. This means no more clubbing, concerts, or any events or places where loud music is played, minimal headphones and handphone usage, and cutting down on caffeine and alcohol. Oh, and I suppose I should get myself more sleep too. And apparently stress can make things worse too, so I have to try to keep that to a minimum (but honestly, with my line of work? HA!!!!).
Sigh. But like I said, things could be much, much worse.
