After talking to a large number of people about the new in-thing in town, fish spas, I finally found someone who was willing to try it out with me. Everyone else just felt too grossed out by the idea of fish eating their feet to want to even give it a try, but thankfully Felicia was enthusiastic. So we set a date and off we went!
We went to Garra Rufa Fish Therapy in Bangsar, after Felicia had sent me a link warning people about some fish spas using fake fish for their therapy. Li San decided to tag along just to watch, but in the end caved in and decided to try it out along with us.
The first thing they make you do is to wash your feet. After that, we walked over to one side of the pool and tentatively dipped our feet into the water.
Note: Image taken from the Internet. Did not bother taking my own as there are so many of them out there already anyway. Besides, my feet are ugly lol. Not sure if fish in the image is the real garra rufa or not, please refer to warning link above.
As we were the only ones using that pool, the fish swarmed our feet and started nibbling us. I burst out giggling because it was SO TICKLISH. I couldn’t quite bear to watch the fish nibbling my feet for the first five minutes or so, it just seemed so odd. Li San, who sat beside me, tried her best to scream in silence while looking anywhere but at her feet in the water (sorry lah dear, but it was really amusing lol). After awhile, the sensation of fish nibbling at my feet subsided to feeling more like putting them in a jacuzzi, so I finally stopped giggling like a little schoolgirl. It became more as more pleasant as time went by, and soon even Li San was staring at the fish in the water without flinching.
We stayed in for awhile longer than the half an hour we booked, and in the end we were actually quite reluctant to leave. When we finally took our feet out of the water they felt remarkably smoother and softer.
All in all I enjoyed the experience, and would definitely like to do it again. Anyone else adventurous enough to give it a try?
